Noam Chomsky said that there is no “double standard” of hypocrisy in US foreign policy; it is actually a “single standard” (his book ‘Failed States’). Then today I happened to come across these lines from George W Bush’s 2nd inaugural address again: “Today, America speaks anew to the peoples of the world. All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression or excuse your oppressors. When you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.”
Well George, the people of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Azerbeijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, the Palestinians and so many other countries and peoples oppressed by US-supported governments are still waiting.
